The glamorous Hotel Paisano presides over the two-block downtown (the film Giant was made in Marfa, and all of the big stars of the day stayed at the hotel and left behind signed photos displayed in the lobby—Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, and Dennis Hopper, among others). There are many beautiful examples of art deco architecture (with a distinctive southwest influence), artist’s studios every other storefront, and friendly, talkative people.
We lunched on the outdoor patio of The Food Shark, a seriously funky food wagon that offers up gourmet food and a menu that changes daily. The proprietor calls your name (loudly) from a bright yellow bullhorn when your meal is ready. This experience alone is worth the trip to Marfa.
There was so much here to photograph, and the desert afternoon light is so stunning, that we really couldn’t do the town justice. It deserves another trip. Definitely must be Tuesday thru Saturday, when the Food Shark is open.
Always so awesome. Thanks and keep sharing… xoxo
Almost don’t want you to come home. I will so miss your blogs. I swear you can make anyplace look like a “coffee table book”. Hard to choose but I think the “El Cheapo” is my favorite this time.
